Golden Pass LNG is located in Sabine Pass, on the Gulf Coast of southeast Texas.
Moffatt & Nichol initially provided marine facilities design support to an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor during the Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) stage of liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal and then provided marine design and oversight services to CB&I Constructors Inc. during the construction phase of the terminal. The design incorporates two LNG berths situated in a dredged slip along the main waterway adjacent to the LNG terminal. Each berth consists of an unloading platform, a combination roadway-and-pipeway trestle, and walkways connecting three breasting dolphins and six mooring dolphins to each other and the unloading platform. We also included a tug dock suitable for berthing up to four large-capacity tractor tugs in the design. FEED services included site selection support, dredged basin design, a preliminary shoreline protection plan, evaluation of available geotechnical information for the piling plans, conceptual structural design of the marine facilities, and wind- and ship-generated wave analyses for the site. EPC marine services included detailed design of the dredged basin, the shoreline revetment, and the plant boundary revetment off the main waterway. CB&I also contracted Moffatt & Nichol to perform oversight design services for the marine structures and monitor dredging operations during the construction of the berth slip and turning basin.
