Moffatt & Nichol provided detailed evaluation for Itapoá Terminais Portuarios S.A. for potential impacts to its capital expansion program.
Itapoá Terminais Portuarios S.A. selected Moffatt & Nichol as an independent technical advisor to provide a detailed evaluation on all engineering, design, commercial, market, and trading activities that could impact its capital expansion program at the port. Itapoá Terminais Portuarios S.A.’s plan involved extending the berthing line at the facility from 630m to 800m, which is sufficient for handling two neo-Panamax size (up to 14,000 TEU) ships simultaneously. Alongside draft would be increased from 13m to 15m, while two new super-post-Panamax STS cranes and up to eight RTGs would be purchased.
The primary objective for the assignment was to provide the lenders with recommendations on the technical, construction, operational, commercial, and financial aspects that may prevent the project from performing as planned. Moffatt & Nichol analyzed the factors driving Brazil’s container market and shaping carriers’ liner networks and future operating strategies at a country level with a specific focus on south Brazil. Specifically, Moffatt & Nichol ascertained how these factors could influence Itapoá’s ability to maintain its existing customer base and attract new services and more cargo.
