To assist a client in strengthening its port terminals business, Moffatt & Nichol provided a market overview of the main Latin American markets and undertook a benchmark exercise and portfolio analysis.
The market overview assessed container operations within the region, their historical volume performance as well as ownership structure and expected performance in the next 5-10 years. Moffatt & Nichol also provided a performance overview at a regional and national level, allowing for an understanding of which markets were expected to perform well. The regional overview was supported by an exhaustive shipping analysis identifying the main shipping lines and their deployed capacity at terminal level, critical to understanding regional deployment dynamics.
The benchmarking analysis focused on the group’s individual assets and its combined portfolio. Both financial and operational KPIs were compared between the assets and regional and global comparable operations. At a portfolio level, a number of metrics assessing connectivity, diversification and innovation were compared against global terminal operators without carrier affiliations but that had a significant presence in Latin America.
Moffatt & Nichol then provided an unbiased opinion of the assets’ contribution to the group’s value proposition and potential measures that could strengthen the portfolio.
