Stable stream channels are needed to accommodate high water flows from upstream development and also help avoid flooding.
The City of Wilmington selected Moffatt & Nichol to design and install a stable stream channel that can safely accommodate high flows from upstream development and alleviate flooding along the channel of the Clear Run Branch Stream. The permitting work involved collecting the baseline data needed to develop a draft environmental assessment and then apply for an individual permit and the accompanying individual water quality certification to allow for the culverting of 410 feet of stream, enhancing 2500 feet of severely eroding stream channel, excavating a new active floodplain, and restoring 0.16 acres of wetlands by removing existing spoil piles from previous dredging, as well as developing a revegetation plan and stream/vegetation monitoring plan.
