The Port of Albany in New York is preparing to welcome offshore wind manufacturing at the Port’s new heavy lift quay, already in final design, making the Port of Albany the country's first offshore-wind-tower-capable assembly site.
After performing a site investigation and preparing a 30 percent concept design to support permitting, Moffatt & Nichol is now providing final design services for the Port of Albany’s heavy lift capable quay. The quay is designed to service an 80-acre offshore wind marine terminal manufacturing development. The approximately 500 linear feet heavy lift inbound and loadout quay structure is capable of supporting up to 6,000 pounds per square foot for anticipated offshore wind manufacturing tenants. The design will optimise the space to facilitate large component delivery and loadout amongst multiple lease holders. During initial planning, Moffatt & Nichol represented the port in talks with offshore wind component original equipment manufacturers and developers to establish the required criteria for the proposed heavy lift wharf to ensure the structure would be suitable for its purpose.
