Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island Spill Response Base Planning

Moffatt & Nichol was retained by Western Canada Marine Response Corporation to develop conceptual designs for three new oil spill response bases in the Lower Mainland and on Vancouver Island for the expansion in shipping of petroleum cargoes out of Vancouver Harbour.

Moffatt & Nichol assisted in developing the functional performance requirements and facility layouts templates for the new bases. Initially, the layouts were developed in a generic sense that could be used as a tool for screening the suitability of several potential sites. Once we identified suitable candidate sites, we customized the generic templates to reflect the specific opportunities and constraints of the various sites. Moffatt & Nichol completed the conceptual and preliminary design of three sites and completed rendering for all sites, including those that were not on our design portfolio, Port Nanaimo and Port Alberni.
