Port of Savannah Multi-Modal Connector

The Port of Savannah is one of the busiest container ports in the U.S., and continued rail expansion is a key component to improved mobility for the transport of goods in the country.

Moffatt & Nichol is serving as the program manager and engineer of record for the Georgia Port Authority’s proposed Savannah International multi-modal connector project. The $218 million project will connect and expand the Mason Yard and Chatham Yard intermodal container transfer facilities, creating a single, multi-modal facility that will serve all rail operations at the Garden City Terminal.

When implemented, the project will move rail switching operations to the terminal reducing local rail crossing delays. As part of the planning services, Moffatt & Nichol’s FlexTerm® team provided simulation services, which have been an important component of master planning for the project.
