Demand Study for New Port Facility

Moffatt & Nichol implemented in-house, proprietary modeling to support cargo forecasting for a client’s demand study for a new regional deepwater port.

Moffatt & Nichol was engaged by a confidential client to produce an independent demand study that supports the cargo forecast for the new port of Maralto in the state of Paraná. Maralto seeks to offer a new logistical solution for the state, and its main differential is that it is a deep-water port that will be able to accommodate the largest ships serving the east coast of South America today and in the future.

In this ongoing project, Moffatt & Nichol has deployed a two-step methodology, comprising a comprehensive market characterisation and the implementation of our in-house Network Analyst tool that estimates port infrastructure catchment areas.

Moffatt & Nichol has developed a national economic overview of Brazil, as well as assessing the container market and volume trends in the country. The project also evaluates Maralto’s area of influence, its potential market and the competitive landscape, focusing on the ports of Paranaguá (TCP), Santos, Itapoá and Itajaí

Volume forecasts were developed to estimate potential volumes at the Port of Maralto.
