The volume of at-grade train activity impacted the ability of emergency responders to serve the community .
The 2.2-mile project lowered 1.4 miles of UPRR main line track at the Alhambra Subdivision into a trench, 65 feet wide by 30 feet deep. The Moffatt & Nichol team worked on the project from preliminary engineering through final design and construction support. We also supported community outreach activities during design and construction. Currently, there are 18 trains that operate on this track on a daily basis, which significantly impacts the ability of emergency responders to adequately provide services to the local community. Our design reconnected four major streets by constructing overhead bridges across the railroad trench, which eliminated all previous impacts created by the at-grade crossings. Project completion vastly improved pedestrian safety, multi-modal mobility, traffic circulation, and emergency response times.
