The U.S. Navy (Navy) is the largest and most capable navy in the world and one of Moffatt & Nichol’s first clients upon the firm’s inception.
The firm has designed many major, often innovative, new naval facilities, as well as rehabilitation and modernization projects. In fact, Moffatt & Nichol has served nearly all of the Naval Facilities Engineering Commands. Moffatt & Nichol staff is capable of delivering a wide range of services, including field investigations, analysis, planning, permitting, design, contract documents, and post construction award services. In addition, the staff is experienced at addressing the specific needs and requirements of Navy projects, such as preparing DD Form 1391, Unified Facilities Criteria, and design manuals.
While there are many firms in the country that provide military and port industrial engineering services, there are very few that specialize in this type of work and have Moffatt & Nichol’s breadth and depth of Navy project experience. Projects the firm has undertaken include piers and wharves, dry docks and caissons, military industrial buildings, bulkheads, deep and large foundations, fixed and floating dock systems, mooring and fendering systems, breakwaters, seawalls, submarine and ship engineering facilities, blast facilities, utility systems, operations facilities, and other support facilities, as well as dredging studies, dredged material placement, shore protection, beach nourishment, drainage and stormwater management systems, and marsh creation and stabilization.
