The 7th Street Grade Separation significantly improves the efficiency and reliability of both truck and rail access to and from the Port of Oakland.
Moffatt & Nichol was the lead structural engineer during preliminary design for this $500 million project funded by the Alameda County Transportation Commission. Moffatt & Nichol provided preliminary engineering, including feasibility analysis, advanced planning studies, and type selection for the East and West components of the project. The project includes the Maritime Street Bridge, 7th Street Bridge, a railroad bridge over BART, mechanically stabilized embankments, an undercrossing at 7th Street, and a deep soil mixing wall. The project removes conflicts between trucks and trains and modernizes roadways to accommodate anticipated increases in truck volumes.
